I love my vet! I brought my 11 month old in the other week to ask about a neuter. They did free blood work (since my pup has had previous health issues, the vet and staff have fallen in love with him) and they did the procedure today. They also had to cut into the left side of his abdomen to extra the undescended testicle. The total cost of the cryptorchid-inguinal surgery cost $150. They said that is the standard fee as well. Then his painkillers and elizabethan collar were $19.80. And here I thought living in RI was expensive! |

they have low cost spay and neuter here, only $60 for small male dogs, then the price goes up $10 based on weight. girl dogs cost a little more but still barely a hundred bucks. you do have to pay for the rabies shot if you don't bring proof. and medicaid/food stamps proof gets you the surgery free. |

I have had 3 dogs, 3 cats spayed/neutered thru them. $30 per animal. All did very well, even Min Pin with heart murmur did great! do your research first! These low cost clinics help you & support homeless animals too! And the offer a reduced fee shot clinic! Not a full scale vet, but most times will refer you to a low cost full service vet for check ups or emergencies. |

We where surprised when we where charged $594. We where informed because one testicle had not dropped there would be an additional $75 charge but assumed that was on a figure of maybe $200. We should have asked before we authorized the procedure. Seems very high. |

I purchased a $90.00 certificate from Friends of Animals, my vet participates in the program. Then the meds and exam cost $35.00. My puppy was kept overnight and well cared for. I wondered what it would've cost had I not used FOA. It looks like I saved myself $200-$300. You can buy the certificates online from their website friendsofanimals.org. They even tell you which vets in your area participate. |

I paid $30 each to have a boy and girl maltese neutered/spayed. I did my research and found a reputable low cost animal clinic that performs these surgeries at reduced cost. Both my dogs are healthy and are doing great! |

Treatment: Spay | Breed: 19 lb Poodle |
Vet: Pigeon Pass Animal Hospital |
Initially I had an appointment at the local animal shelter and was quoted $65.00 plus an optional $20.00 for pain medication. I thought that would be great so I booked an appointment and had to wait almost 3 months for her to get seen. My dog ended up getting sick and we had to miss that appointment. Thinking that the quote was about the average price range I booked an appointment with a vet that is closer to my home without asking for a quote. She was seen a week later so I was happy that I didn't have the almost 3 month wait time. To my surprise, when I picked her up the bill was for $280.00. Thank God I had just got paid and had the money on me (Vet takes cash only, due at time of service)! After reading these other experiences and investigating what goes into the whole procedure it puts me more at ease that the cost wasn't too up there. The vet is really caring and it is an extremely clean office. Thanks! |

I was shocked when I was handed an invoice with two prices. $613 - $999. The cost of the alteration was $145.00. But the antesthesia, pain medication, overnight stay, all blood work, ECG and follow up were ALL EXTRA. I feel guility that I did not opt for the blood work, ECG and follow up...but I just can't afford it. |

Treatment: Neuter and Microchip | Breed: Australian Shepherd |
Vet: Dr. D. L. Apple, DVM |
We trusted Dr. Apple to be fair with pricing, he was our vet for 12 years. We could not believe this price for our healthy puppy with no complications. The chip was about $100, so the rest came to $839...everything was a charge such as "Pain injection" $74, General Antesthesia $200, Surgery $200, etc. Our phone call to explain the charges was not returned. |

This is top notch. They don't leave anything out. Even a ekg. Blood work, micro-chip, pedicure, the collar and all meds. This price includes a puppy discount of 10%. I guess after seeing some of the other prices I'm not as shocked as when I first saw mine. |

Total cost for neuter including having to go into the abdomen to get right testicle and after seeing some of the other costs listed here I don't think it was too bad other than they gave me an "estimate" as a spay cost of $235. But I did choose to have the pre-op blood work of $61. |

Treatment: neuter | Breed: cockapoo |
When I got my cockapoo neutered back in 2005 I thought it was expensive what I paid for the procedure but now that I got a new dog I am realizing how cheap it was. When I took him it included everything didn't worry about anything just taking him home. Compared what I paid for neutering my cockapoo $110, to spaying my chihuahua $210 and that does not include anesthesia and the other stuff so it adds up and I just have to keep looking to find somewhere else. There are lots of programs now that will help pay part of it or will help you find somewhere free. |

Please do your homework and don't get suckered into purchasing the low-cost neutering certificates from Friends of Animals and other groups. I paid $65 for a male dog certificate, but could only find two vets within 1/2 hour that would honor it. I made an appointment with the practice that my sister knew of and approved of. They are a good practice, but attached many hidden charges to the estimate. By the time they were finished, it would have been about $350, which is about $25 more than what my usual vet charges, plus the cost of gas for traveling the distance for three appointments! They were going to charge me for the pre-op exam, when the certificate actually said that it was included. This was not an oversight- the certificate said "cursory" pre-op exam and they said that they only do "full" exams. They removed this charge after I had a hissy fit at this obvious play of semantics. They insisted on pre-op bloodwork, which is a good idea, but it cost $109. They were going to charge me for the post-op pain injection, but I reminded them that was included on the certificate. Then they were going to charge $40 for 4 days of Rimadyl. I told them that I used to have a 100lb sheepdog on Rimadyl, and it didn't cost $10 a day, despite the fact that she weighed 3X more than my current pup. Luckily, I had some current Rimadyl at home and only had to recalibrate the dose. They were also going to charge for an E-collar, which I was able to borrow. I opted to pay an extra $75 for laser surgery and $50 for the microchip.
I don't know whether the FOA certificate is the scam, or if the problem was with this particular practice, but something should be done about this duping of animal owners who just want to do the right thing, but not pay an arm and a leg. If I had not asserted myself, it would have cost more than $100 more. As it was, it was still no bargain. |

I had my female beagle spayed and the cost was 229.50. My male dog cost 249.00, but he did have one testicle retained.Without the retained testicle, the cost would have been 189.50. It's expensive but far less expensive than a litter of pups, not to mention other health benefits my dog will have. |

I was told I would have to pay $269.00, that is with the SPCA $65.00 discount. How is it possible to charge so much? Flip is 6 to 8 months old. I was told it was for the medication and surgery? What...was everything used in the opperation plated with platinum. |
