Treatment: spay, microchip, shots | Breed: any |
Vet: shelter |
If you go to a shelter and adopt, you will in many cases, pay only the adoption fee. Many include spaying/neutering, microchip, vaccinations, test for heartworm and if negative, a dose of heartworm meds, and flea tick meds. A pet from a rescue also costs less than some of these prices and you can find pure breeds at rescues and shelters. |

Treatment: spay and neuter | Breed: Shih Tzu, Great Pyrenees |
Vet: Audubon Animal Hospital |
I was quoted 280.00 to get both my Shih Tzu and Great Pyrenees fixed. My Shih Tzu I rescued, he was used for breeding and the Pyrenees was from a friend who uses the dogs for herd guarding. The staff we very kind and answered all my questions. The price included anesthesia, the surgery itself and after care pain meds. I had to buy the no bite collars myself but I wasn't to upset a out it. |

I was a little shocked by the high price I paid, but my dog is very comfortable with my vet and the care and staff are outstanding. The procedure included the surgery, pre-op blood work, pain meds, nail trim, micro-chipping and any necessary follow-up visits (in my case only 1). The vet corrected a previously overlooked umbilical hernia at no extra charge. I paid $75 beyond the base price for laser surgery. This shortens healing time and means there were no stitches to remove. I called around and a similar procedure at a nearby hospital was $350 (no laser). I asked my vet to explain the higher price and he showed me the laser, heated surgical platform and heated recovery cages that other hospitals don't offer. They also used sevoflurane for the anesthetic which allows shorter recovery time than the isoflurane used by most vets. |

Treatment: Neuter | Breed: German Shepherd/Belgian Mali Mix |
Vet: VCA Gordon Rd., Fredericksburg VA |
I received the estimate via email from my vet. They had mentioned $400 prior to the estimate. The estimate in July was $520. The dog is about 125 lb., 24 months old, healthy, active. IN COMPLETE SHOCK. Scheduled for Monday. Belgian Malinois's are very sensitive to anesthesia and it is reported they have to be watch closesly with surgeries.... could this be why? It includes blood work prior to the surgery. I should hope so. |

Treatment: Spay 16 week old, 19 pounds | Breed: German Shepherd Mix |
My 16 week old, 19 pound, German Shepherd mix puppy is going in for her spay procedure tomorrow. I was quoted $370 to include spay, heart monitoring, anesthesia, pain meds and overnight stay. If the price I pay tomorrow is different than what I was quoted, I'll repost. |

Treatment: neutered | Breed: wheaten terrier |
Vet: beaver meadows |
It was $21-office visit, $18-hospitalization, $17-preop sedation, $20-propoflo, $41.80-anesthesia, $35-canine castration, $13-suture material vicryl, $15-kennel cough 2nd vaccination, $10-ear plucking, $10 plastic cone collar. I thought it was average for the area. They are close to where I live, they get my dog in the day I call when there's a problem and the staff is really nice. |

Treatment: Neutured | Breed: Jack Russell Terrier |
Vet: West Charleston Animal Clinic |
My 8 month old Jack Russell Terrier was neutered ($75), microchipped ($32), had bordetella vaccine ($10), teeth brushed ($15), and nails trimmed ($10) at my Las Vegas vet of 6yrs. The blood work was done a couple months ago at $150 when we first took him in for an upset tummy for something he accidently ate, so that saved us on the cost of having his bloodwork done again for the neuturing procedure. Still an excellent price for the entire list compared to what Petsmart wanted to charge originally just for neuter only $250! I love my vet :o)!!! |

Treatment: Castration & Scrotal ablation | Breed: Irish Wolfhound |
Vet: Dr. David Puerto & Dr. Andrea Caniglia |
Obviously I spent way more than anyone on this procedure. Due to the sensitive nature of the breed with anesthesia, I wanted a certified anesthesiologist in addition to the surgeon. They removed the one descended testicle, found and removed the remnants of the undescended testicle, and removed the scrotum. They let me stay with my dog after being admitted, up until the surgery, and then with him during the recovery. He was released that evening, 13 hours after being admitted. I have only good things to say about how my dog and I were treated. But obviously I spent way more than I could have. The clinic, CARES in Langhorn, PA, is known to be very expensive, but very good. I went for very good. Price included pre-surgery consultation, blood work, take-home pain meds and antibiotics, and a BiteNot collar. |

Treatment: Spay | Breed: Pitt Bull |
Local Veterinary hospital charges for weight of dog. Pain pills for after surgery cost $20-25 extra if desired. My local vet is awesome with being cost conscious for his clients. Check around locally for good prices and a new vet may be in your future as well. |

Treatment: Spay | Breed: German Shepard |
the quote from our vet in Oakland Ca to spay our 6month old german shepard ranged from $845-$1066 (cost range dependent upon blood work, post op meds, collars).
Which seems terribly high to me. based on others posts it seems even more ridiculous.... I have had a long standing relationship with this vet and have found services in the past to be comperably priced, I have a call in to the vet to see what "special services" warrant the inflated surgical costs? |

I am a veterinarian that owns a one doctor small animal practice. My average dog spay is around $300 which probably does not cover the cost to do the procedure. Spays and neuters are not profitable and non-profit clinics are heavily subsidized. |

Vet: OCVH |
Received a high and low price and after surgery received a bill upon completion of surgery. Wanted a refund based on the walk out bill
( payment had to be made in full before procedure )and was told there was an adjusted bill which I never received. I never saw the final bill. Never received a resonsible pet owner discount, was told the dog was too old to qualify for the discount. These guys are really good, but sell your home to pay for the great care they give. |

Dog needs blood work prior to surgery to neutering. The care and staff are great but the cost is through the roof. It is impossible to keep up with suggested well care visits at this cost. |

Treatment: Spay | Breed: JRT mix |
Vet: The Spay Spot, MD |
Our 7 mos old was in HEAT! And what would have been only a $100 fee, cost us an extra $100. Fees around here range from $100-$135 with no heat. We knew it would be more expensive but not that much more. We were a little disappointed since we researched this place as one of the less expensive sites but ended up with a higher rate. All in all we are happy with the choice. |

Treatment: Spay & 2 Neuters | Breed: JRT / DLH / DSH |
Vet: River City Community Animal Hospital |
This is a mobile spay/neuter clinic that services SE GA/NE FL. I've had all of my animals fixed using their services and have never paid over $80. This included the spay/neuter, anesthesia, overall check-up, rabies vax, ear cleaning, nail clipping and microchipping. I'd say that's a pretty darn good deal. The only drawback is that they will not neuter dogs over 50lbs and my dog is about 75 lbs which means I have to drive 50 mi to St Francis A.H. in Jacksonville if I want my dog done and that costs $145. |

Vet: Animal Clinic of Bensonhurst |
My 6.5 month old Yorkiepoo weighs 5.25 lbs. It cost 350.00 for the surgery and 50 for the check up before the surgery. It included the sedatives and antibiotic. I didn't have to pay for a follow-up or to have the stitches removed. |
